Lauki Thalipeeth | How to make Bottle gourd Paratha

Lauki Thalipeeth, a beloved Maharashtrian delicacy, seamlessly melds the nutritional benefits of bottle gourd with the diverse textures of mixed flours. The grated bottle gourd, imbuing the dough with moisture and a delicate sweetness, harmonizes with a blend of whole wheat and chickpea flours. This dough, enlivened with a symphony of spices such as cumin seeds, turmeric and chili powder. Kneaded to perfection, the dough is then formed into round flatbreads and skillfully cooked on a hot griddle or tawa until achieving a golden-brown, crispy exterior on both sides. A drizzle of ghee or oil during the cooking process enhances its texture and flavor.

  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2 tsp Corriander powder
  • 2 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • cup Sesame Seeds

  • Take 1 no Bottle gourd remove outer layer and grate it. I am using around 2 cups of grated bottle gourd here.
  • Now add 2 cup Wheat Flour, ½ cup Besan (gram flour), 1 tsp Carom Seeds, 2 tsp Cumin powder, 2 tsp Red Chilli, 1 tsp Cumin Seeds, 1½ tsp salt, 1 tsp Turmeric Powder, 2 tsp Corriander powder, and 2 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste.

  • Now take a round shape cotton cloth, size of normal chapati. Make it wet with water and take small amount of dough and put on the wet cloth. Beat it gently and make flat round shape.
  • Now sprinkle some sesame seeds from ⅐ cup Sesame Seeds and make small 5-6 holes, one in center and other around it.
  • Heat tawa and sprinkle oil on it. With the help of cloth turn around and put the flat dough on tawa and gently remove the cloth. Now roast the flat dough from medium to high flame using oil and from center to every corner on both sides.
  • After it is roasted completely transfer to a plate. Lauki Thalipeeth is ready. Repeat the process with the remaining dough.

Serve hot. It can be served with Curd or Pickle.
If you want to make Paratha, just add more amount of wheat flour and using rolling pin and board give shape and roast.
